Coffee - A Potion for the morning

Updated: Aug 11, 2023

I personally love starting the day with a nice warm cup of coffee. It has been a constant comfort to me through my happiest, and my unhappiest of times. Just the smell of coffee grounds, brewed coffee, or coffee beans puts my brain into a happy spiral of serotonin and dopamine.

The very first spell, potion, brew, magical act I have ever done has to do with making my coffee. It is also the ONLY magical act I have been able to do consistently in sickness and in health. Although, to be fair, I sometimes swap out morning coffee for morning tea/tisane's when I'm down with the sickness.

How to make your drink a potion for the morning

This is one of the easiest & lowest energy ways to be witchy and magical on the down low.

Step 1:

Stir your drink and tell it what you want it to do

Step 2:

Drink it

I promise you it is as easy and simple as that. At the core this is stirring with intention.

What I do (Low Energy):

I will make my cup of coffee and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before I actually "prep" it because then it will be the temperature that my brain likes. I like to use brown sugar because it tastes better to me, and French vanilla non-dairy creamer. I then determine if I want to draw in energy or push energy away from me and this will tell me what direction to stir.

Some days I want to both draw in and push out energy - so I'll stir both clockwise (draw in) and counter clockwise (push out) in order to accomplish my daily goal. I will then say in my head, or even out loud what it is I want. Most days it sounds like this:

Bring me the energy to function like a person

~Said while stirring clockwise

Block anything that is bad for my energetic self

~Said while stirring counterclockwise

I have a sticky note on the cabinet above the coffee making stuff that has arrows and directions on what clockwise and counterclockwise look like because, let's be honest, I haven't had my coffee yet while I'm doing this.

What I do (High Energy):

When I am just FEELING it that day, or have harangued my husband into making me fancy coffee I will add different herbs and spices to the grounds or to the brew directly. Here are a list of a few things I may add in:

  • Cardamom

  • Cinnamon

  • Flower syrups (Lavender is my favorite)

  • Nutmeg

  • Pumpkin spice

  • Salt

  • Turmeric

  • Vanilla extract

  • Whipped Cream

This adds a different flavor profile to the brew and also allows me to expand my morning ritual to include a bit more ceremony, pomp and circumstance. I'll be honest- I do not often have this level of energy to put into the first cup of the day- but it is nice to have options.

Magical Correspondences

Cardamom -

  • This is a lusty herb, both in the literal sense but also in the "lust for life" way.

  • Enhanced your charm, a Nat 20 roll for charisma is built in here

  • In a word - Enthusiasm

Cinnamon -

And absolute staple in my house.

  • Strengthens personal and psychic power - good for calling on your own strength and magical abilities

  • Boosts Love, Lust, Passion and anything else that has a fiery energy

  • Success and Protection

Coffee -

  • Helps you get out of your own way by removing internal energetic, mental, and emotional blocks.

  • Adds stamina to any magical endeavor (it's not just the caffeine I promise) and can help provide focus and speed to your workings.

  • Is a great way to stave off nightmares

Flower Syrups - Lavender

This will depend on what flower syrup you are using - so the correspondences will change but for Lavender

  • Peace and calm with a sense of grounding

  • Good dreams, both day and night

  • Protection and perseverance - Lavender is a hearty seaside plant

Milk / Cream / Creamer -

  • This is a nourishing energy and can be tied to "motherly" energy or goddess connection. Happiness and health reign.

  • Fertility and creativity flourish here as well

Nutmeg -

  • If you are working on your psychic powers or visions this is a good add

  • Grants good luck and aids in making your own

  • Attracts money, opportunities for money, and can be used to remind people to pay back their depts to you.

Pumpkin Spice -

This is often a blend of Cinnamon, Clove, Ginger, Allspice and Nutmeg

  • This is a low key protection spell - So even if you get your coffee at Starbucks, a pumpkin spice late will add strength to your defenses in the day

  • Passion and power are also aligned with Pumpkin spice

  • Prosperity exists here.

Salt -

  • Protection

Sugar / Brown sugar -

  • Adds a sweet energy to your day and can be very grounding

  • Tied to wisdom and an improved disposition

  • Love, lust and sympathy for others

Turmeric -

  • Mental clarity and direction

  • Brings in a warm healing energy

  • Purification of energies

Vanilla -

  • Love and sultry sweetness- This includes and should always start with you. Love yourself it makes a difference.

  • Everything goes JUST right to bring us vanilla - this is a discerning spice that demands respect and in turn can teach you to do the same with your own mental powers.

  • Kingdoms were built on the trade of vanilla - wealth was determined around the access to this bean - Abundance is an energy carried here

Water -

Sounds silly- but it's used to brew the coffee! This is a good use for drinkable moon water.

  • Our emotions flow in and out like water

  • Water can wash away a bad day, help bring health to us and is essential to life
