What can you do with Friday?

Updated: Jul 28, 2023

My personal practice involves the Norse Pantheon deities. There are many pantheons and many deities that align with certain days and times and I encourage everyone to do that research when they have the energy.

That being said, I deep dived into the days of the week last year and developed my interpretation of how I can honor the deities that hold dominion over that day of the week. Not only does this help me feel like I'm "Doing the Thing" every day - but it took the mental load of "remembering" off of me in the moment and allowed me to make a fancy chart.

So here- we will deep dive into Friday and how I show gratitude to my spirit team:

Day - English

Day - Norse

Deity

Friday

Fredag (freey-dahg)

Frigg - Highest ranked Aesir Goddess- Wife of Odin

Freya - Second Highest ranked goddesses- Love, Fertility, beauty, battle, magic

How does Frigg and Freya help us?

Friday is shared by two goddesses that some say are really one and the same. Partially because a lot of information about Frigg was lost to history and many of the details we DO know are actually about Freya. So honoring either goddess on a Friday is just fine.

These goddesses can help you with glamour magic, self love and sex positivity - regardless of your gender or orientations. They are both teachers of how to love yourself unapologetically and provide guidance in matters of both the heart and the ethereal.

Freya is credited with teaching Odin Seidr magic and both her and Frigg are powerful users of this craft. Health, prosperity and bringing your desires to fruition are all things these goddesses are able to help with. Not only that but Freya gets to claim half of the honored dead.

They are very busy.

What I do:

I use tealights in my daily practice. I have two cute deer shaped tea light holders that have 4 spaces each for a candle on their antlers. One is for Monday - Wednesday - and the other is for Thursday - Sunday (Saturday has no candle).

When I have the mental space, I will pre-prep my candles on a Saturday by carving the rune of the day into their wax. It's not always pretty but its there so I can see it. Some weeks I don't have the time or energy to do that so I simply say the name of the rune when I light the tealight in the morning.

I love Fridays. I feel very powerful on this day and focus on healing from the week that has just come to a conclusion. This is another day to focus on self-care and getting a good bubble bath is sometimes in order. I also try to do something divinatory today - Tarot, Runes, Pendulums- anything at all counts. A green candle surrounded by flowers and tigers eye can really help bring in the healing and healthy vibes.

I have set up my honoring on a scale - Low energy days - I light the tea candle and am happy with my ability to do just that! High energy days - I may go ALL out and check off all the things on my list. Days that land in the middle of my energy spectrum will be some kind of variation of this.

Below I have included what I learned from my research on Odin and that which corresponds not only to this entity but also just to the day of the week in and of itself. Use what works and leave what doesn't - but always be kind to yourself.

  • Mugwort

Ways to Honor through Action:

Listen to a love song and dance like a dervish. Learn or practice magic or things that feel magical to you. You can also just spend some time in nature and be nice to your feline friends. Care for them (litterbox I'm looking at you) pet them or cuddle with them. If you are not able to care for cats directly- send good thoughts to your friends cats - or donate to a local no kill shelter.

Things not to do (Not that you would anyway):

Be unkind to those you love and care about. You also want to avoid meddling in others relationships and causing division on purpose. It's not cool and no one likes that. Also - don't drop your boundaries and let that abusive person back in - you are important to.
